Cables laid inside buildings are a potential source for spreading fires. Because of that the basic requirements for such cables if for them to be resistant to spreading fires i.e. self extinguishing. In the past, cables insulated with PVC were the standard choice for cables used within buildings, because to some extent they are waterproof.  However, in cases where the cables are installed vertically along beams, they spread fire, do not extinguish themselves and furthermore they release corrosive and poisonous gases that are harmful not on materially but to people as well. Cables with insulation without halogens, with exceptionally enhanced propertied in case of fires, today provide a wise and proven better alternative. Such insulation materials carry the marking FRNC (flame retardant non corrosive) or LSOH (low smoke zero halogen).
